For the past three years, I've lived in Charlottesville, VA, where I'm a graduate student at the University of Virginia. I'm working on my PhD in American music history and will start my dissertation this summer on American film musicals from the 1930s and 1940s. I have a dog named Henny, who responds to both, "Sit!" and "Zuo ba!" I'll be refreshing my language skills this summer in order to take a language exam for my PhD requirements.

Last summer I was able to implement my Chinese while doing fieldwork at 798, the contemporary arts district in Beijing for my senior thesis. After graduation, starting in September 2006 I am going to be in Beijing during the fall semester studying at IUP at Qinghua to further my Chinese. After the fall semester I am going to be staying in Beijing for several months doing independent research on art museums in China with the support of a Fulbright grant. Up until now, my "current profession" has been traveling in India/Kashmir, reading all the books that I should have already read and have not, adjusting my Beijing taste buds to the sweetness of Shanghai, and enjoying a job-free life for a couple of months.

I am now in Costa Rica doing my MA in International Peace Studies.
Although I live in a small town in San Jose, I have had some opportunities
to use my Chinese. I hope to keep up my Chinese somehow and visit Beijing
sometime ;)
