Churchill Scholarship For Graduate Study in Engineering, Mathematics and ScienceDESCRIPTIONThe Churchill Scholarship enables outstanding American students, enrolled at one of the colleges participating in the Churchill program, the opportunity to pursue graduate studies in engineering, mathematics and the sciences at Churchill College, Cambridge University. Scholarships also provide the opportunity to experience life in Britain, to forge friendships with British students and students from around the world, to see something of Europe and lands beyond, to see the United States from a new perspective and to gain personal insights from living and studying abroad and adjusting to new challenges.ELIGIBILITY
SELECTIONSelection is based on: exceptional academic achievement demonstrated by course grades (GPAs usually are of at least 3.7 or A-); scores on the Graduate Record Examination; capacity for original, creative work at an advanced level as shown by special recognition and letters of reference; and outstanding personal qualities as demonstrated by leadership, activities, and social engagement. Applicants in the sciences and engineering will show substantial independent work or other projects, laboratory experience, internships, or other related work, while applicants in math will show substantial independent work or other projects.A nomination from Hamilton College is required. AWARDSAt least eleven scholarships, tenable for nine or twelve months depending upon the academic program, are offered annually. Scholarships cover all tuition and fees and providing a living allowance. In addition, there is a travel grant of up to $1,000 for travel to/from the U.K. Overall, the Churchill Scholarship, at current rates of exchange, is worth between $44,000 and $50,000 depending on the program of study. The Foundation also offers the possibility of a Special Research Grant of up to $2,000 which may cover travel for presentations at international conferences, short stays at another university or institute for special research, and other activities.DEADLINESMonday, November 12, 2007**Early October - Apply for admission to the University of Cambridge. Applicants for the Churchill Scholarship must indicate on the Cambridge application that they are applying to Churchill College. ***GRE Test must be taken in time to report scores for the November 12 deadline.
