Academic Regulations

Course load

Students take four courses a semester, each semester (some courses are annual). By permission of the director, students may over-enroll by one course during one of the semesters. Regular attendance at all classes (regardless if roll is taken or not) is expected of all students, and counts in the final evaluation and grade. Deadlines for dropping classes my differ for different institutions and will be posted at Reid Hall.  All deadlines must be respected.

Examinations

Examination periods vary according to institutions. Usually, they take place early to mid-January for Fall, and May for Spring. Examinations may be given by the instructor of the class or by professors appointed by the director. Students who take courses at the Institut d?Études Politiques may have classes and examinations until later in June.

Standard for Academic Work

Students are usually graded according to the French system, form 0 to 20. At the end of the academic year, grades are converted into letter grades equivalent to those used at Hamilton College. During the program, members of the HCJYF other than regular Hamilton students are registered at Hamilton College as special students, not as candidates for a Hamilton degree. They must however meet academic standards of Hamilton College for all the courses they take in Paris, with Hamilton or in Parisian institutions.
