Field Trips and Visits:
An integral part of the the HCJYF
The Hamilton College Junior Year in France offers a rich program of excursions and visits included in the annual fee.
Excursions and visits give students the opportunity to discover more fully the French cultural environment within Paris and in different regions.
 |
- Weekend or day trips. The program organizes four or five overnight excursions in different regions of France (e.g. Bordeaux/St. Émilion while in Biarritz; Brittany and Mont St. Michel; the Loire Valley Castles; Alsace etc.) as well as several day trips in areas not too distant from Paris (e.g.: Fontainebleau; the Champagne region). Whenever possible, excursions include both visits to historical points of interest and to local places of activity (e.g.: farms, artists). Travel, accommodation in hotels, meals, visits and guides are included in the program's annual fee.
- Visits within Paris. Depending on student interest, the director may organize guided visits to unusual sites in Paris (e.g.: Institut du Monde arabe; Tapisseries des Gobelins; Catacombes; Père Lachaise Cemetery or guided thematic walks in particular neighborhoods).
- Cultural outings associated with special classes. Some classes include regular visits to sites in Paris or outside Paris (e.g.: "Medieval French Art" and "Modern French Art" alternate classes at Reid Hall with visits to various museums and monuments; "Paris Théâtre" includes shows in renowned theatres every two or three weeks; entrance to films required for certain classes will be reimbursed by the program).
- Students receive a modest stipend to be used toward discovering the cultural life in Paris (French-language movies, cultural visits, art exhibits, special interest courses or conferences, opera, dance or theater events, or special library cards).
- Group dinner parties and receptions.
