Alumni Council Committees

The Ad Hoc Committee on Multicultural Alumni Relations (MARC) is comprised of a thirteen member executive committee, the subcommittee on Alumni/Student Relations and the subcommittee on Multicultural Regional Events and four ex officio members of the administration and faculty. Their mission is to bring alumni of color into active volunteer leadership roles in the Hamilton College Alumni Association which will, in turn, promote cross-cultural awareness and increased understanding of our alumni of color within the Association and the greater Hamilton community.

The Regional Affairs Committee is comprised of the Chair and presidents of the Regional Alumni Associations and the regional GOLD chairs. Their mission is to engender life long affiliation of alumni with the College. The life of the mind connects alumni to the College?s tradition of academic excellence, and alumni education is their central task. Regional Associations will also provide alumni with regionally appropriate events placing an emphasis on alumni education which will support and strengthen alumni affiliation and, by doing so; advance the goals of the College.

The Class Leadership Committee is comprised of all Class Presidents and all Class Agents. The committee deploys solutions that furthers class affiliation, disseminates information about the College and the class and supports the success of their respective class's Annual Fund. In the spring of every fourth year, the members oversee Reunion planning for their classes' five year Reunion cycle.

The Nominations Committee is comprised of the Chair and thirteen committee members. The committee identifies alumni leaders and potential leaders, and alumni with special areas of expertise; and recruit alumni for service on the Council. The committee recommends, every three years, nominees for Council Chair, and annually one member from the Council to serve as one of the three members of the Executive Committee drawn from the general membership of the Council, for approval by the Council - and recommends, should a vacancy occur in any of these positions, a replacement, to be approved by the Council - and recommends annually nominee(s) for Alumni Trustee for approval by the Council, should a vacancy occur in any alumni trusteeship other than expiration of term of office, an interim replacement to serve until a replacement has been elected as provided in Article 9 of the Constitution - and recommends nominees to be approved by the Executive Committee for Chairs of Standing and Ad Hoc Committees, and recommend nominees to be approved by the Alumni Council for At-Large Members of the Council, as existing memberships expire and as new committees are formed.

Alumni Council Governance

The Alumni Council is governed by the officers who comprise the Executive Committee and the Secretary of the Alumni Association. The Executive Committee meets on the Friday preceding meetings of the Alumni Council.

The Executive Committee sets priorities for the Alumni Association and works to facilitate and promote regional club events and activities (including president's receptions, Alumni Colleges, cultural and social events, and GOLD - Graduates of the Last Decade - events), alumni of color activities, on-campus seminars, alumni recognition, fundraising, career advising and networking and recruitment of prospective students. The Executive Committee meets on campus twice a year. An annual meeting for all alumni is held annually during Reunion & Commencement Weekend.

The Executive Committee is charged with providing overall leadership to the Council and its committees and in the conduct of all Council business. It may make policies and regulations it deems advisable, consistent with the Constitution and By-laws:
  • keeping informed of the needs of the College and guide the volunteer work of the Alumni Council to meet those needs.
  • set goals based on those needs, and form ad hoc committees to respond to those needs; and as needs are filled, disband Ad Hoc committees;
  • recognizing individuals who have supported the College, and plan events to celebrate good work of the Council in general;
  • developing an agenda for each Council meeting, including times for general sessions, committee meetings, meetings with students and faculty, and social events.
  • The Executive Committee shall determine Council business matters to be included in each meeting;
  • appointing Standing and Ad Hoc Committee Chairs, on the recommendation of the Nominations Committee and the Alumni Association;
