Honoring Those Who Serve: Class of '09 Senior Gift

Tree Planting Ceremony
Giving back to our communities is a Hamiltonian hallmark and one which is especially evident with the current generation of students. To commemorate its senior year, the Class of 2009 voted overwhelmingly to establish a prize scholarship to celebrate students who perform "significant and substantial community service in and around the Clinton, N.Y., area."

The class, lead by the members of the senior gift committee and co-chairs Stuart Lombardi '09 and Stephanie Ryder '09, was especially inspired to select this gift to honor the memories of classmates Katharine Eckman '09 and Andrew Sheridan '09, who were passionately dedicated to community service.

Sustaining the tradition of more than 90 percent class participation for the 16th consecutive year, the Class of 2009 achieved a 94.5 percent participation rate, with 446 members of the class contributing. Together, along with the support of trustees, parents and alumni, the class raised $36,791, the second highest amount ever raised by a Hamilton senior class.

The Class of 2009 Community Service Memorial Prize will be awarded annually at Class & Charter Day. To further honor their classmates and celebrate their achievements, the class also planted a tree near the Kirner-Johnson building ramp on the Kirkland side of campus.
