An arboretum is a place where trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants are grown for scientific and educational purposes. Plants are maintained, labeled, cataloged and mapped. Each arboretum is unique, due to the characteristics of the setting, the collections, and the research and educational goals.
The mission of the Hamilton College Arboretum is to preserve the stately historic campus landscape, to build upon the diversity of the collection with sustainable species, and to reinforce the aesthetic character of the campus. It seeks to provide visitors with a broader understanding of the campus landscape and to promote long-term stewardship of the environment.
Membership in the Hamilton College Arboretum Association (HCAA)
Your contribution will help the Hamilton College Arboretum and the Root Glen to delight, inspire, and educate current and future generations. Annual membership contributions supplement the operating revenues.
The Hamilton College Arboretum Fund is an endowed fund initiated by Thomas C. Succop, Class of 1958, as an incentive to encourage the establishment of the Arboretum at Hamilton College. Income from the Fund supports landscape and site work maintenance, and upgrading or additions at the College beyond what is provided by the annual operating budget for these purposes.
Special gifts to the endowment fund will generally or specifically underwrite priority long-term needs for the enhancement or maintenance of the Grounds. Contributions may support internships and educational programs, including research, seminars, lectures, biology and horticultural studies. Gifts may support the acquisition of materials and the development of displays.
