1. Approval of September 13th minutes. Approved.
2. Report from summer Liberty League meeting (Ashley Westbrook) - talked about how other schools do their SAAC – lots of variation. Some schools have huge SAACs that are extremely productive. - Toys for Tots – other schools liked our idea. - Went through new legislation that NCAA passed this summer, no one had any major objections.
3. Sub-Committee Reports: Each committee should be prepared to present your ideas to the committee - Academic Committee – SAAC reps should meet with the rookies on their team, and tell them about the academic resources that are available to them. Chris sent us all an email earlier this week – forward that email and attachment to teammates and meet with them as needed. Inform teams of academic advisors. - Spirit Committee – spirit day on Friday Oct. 8th. We wanted to show highlight clips in Commons (like we have at the athletic banquets), but we couldn’t get the clips to work this time, but will try again for other seasons. - Sportsmanship Committee – Will put inserts in the programs for National Sportsmanship Day. Will talk to Clinton schools and teams about sportsmanship. - Community Service – Trust Treat, Toys for Tots, AIDS Hike
4. Trust Treat – set up station in the lobby of the athletic center, send out email to sign up for half hour shifts. Reply if you can do it. Wear Hamilton Gear.
5. Sportsmanship discussion, specifically pertaining to spectator’s actions. - A lot of the support is really good, but sometimes things get out of line. Dog Pound is great, Orange Bowl, etc. have gotten out of line. How do we keep things from getting out of control? Should athletes take responsibility for trying to calm down other spectators and keep things at a positive level of support? Should SAAC reps tell their teams to make sure that they are positive role models in sportsmanship?
