Student Athlete Advisory Committee

In Attendance: Adam Lavallee, Rose Deng, Suzy Belmont, Patrick Ridall, Lindsey Eaton, Ethan Shoemaker, Erin Daugherty, Alexis Castrovinci, Eileen Fisher, Mara Dropkin-Frank, Meghan Rose, Gus Katsuras, Jessie Pisegna, Emily Clinkhammer, Jane Bradley.

1. New Member – Welcome Eileen Fisher, Women’s Squash rep.

2. Vacant Positions
Vice Chair – We made the decision that we can manage without a Vice Chair this semester.
Liberty League Representative – Anyone who is interested should talk to Sue. Need a female rep since Ashley Westbrook is abroad this semester.
Committee Heads – Jessie Pisegna will assume the position of Chair of the Academic Committee and Meghan Rose will assume the chair position of the Spirit Committee.

3. Committee recaps of first semester
Sportsmanship – Still working towards getting a flyer out for National Sportsmanship Day in March.
Spirit – Set up a "Spirit Day" in the fall, and will do the same in the Spring.
Community Service – Trust Treat and Toys for Tots. Toys for Tots was very successful, thanks to all who participated. Received photos and a thank you from Clinton Central School. It is posted on the bulletin board outside the main office in Alumni as well as on Sue’s office door in North Court.
Academic – Let Freshman (through reps) on each team know who they can go to for academic support, tips on studying, etc.

4. Committee Opportunities:
Community Service: Tsunami Relief – Women’s softball will put out a donation box when selling snacks at Men’s Basketball games (maybe Baseball could do the same for Men’s Hockey games?)
Sportsmanship: National Sportsmanship Day – March 1, 2005
Academic Committee: Student Athlete Luncheon

5. NCAA meeting: the only piece of legislation that affects Hamilton is that automatic qualification for NCAAs will now be extended to include golf and tennis (these teams will have to qualify with NESCAC teams in order to go to NCAAs now).

6. NESCAC Coaching Symposium for Women Athletes: for women athletes who have expressed an interest in coaching as a career. Application process, Hamilton will take 2-3 athletes. Will take place April 1st –3rd. Applications are due Feb. 5th. Coaches will circulate information to their teams.

7. Committees met individually to discuss upcoming events and commitments.

8. Winter Sports events
- Men’s Hockey – Williams/Middlebury– Feb 4th and 5th
- Women’s Hockey – Sacred Heart (Senior Weekend) – Feb 11th and 12th
- Women’s Basketball – St Lawrence – Feb 11th
- Men’s Basketball – St. Lawrence/Clarkson – Feb 11th +12th
- Indoor Track – Liberty League Invitational – Feb. 13th
- Swimming and Diving (M/W) – Feb. 4 vs. LeMoyne is the only one remaining
- Squash (M/W) –W: Feb. 12 vs. Colgate, M: Feb. 9 vs. Rochester

9. Winter Spirit Day - February 11th.

*In the future, all excusals should be sent to both Adam (chair) and Sue well in advance of the meeting. Please refer to our bylaws about attendance expectations.
