Peter Kosgei '10 Wins Four National Titles in 2007-08
Peter Kosgei '10 won four national titles in 2007-08 in what was indisputably the most successful year of any athlete in Hamilton history.
At the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, he won the mile in 4:11.17 and then came back less than 90 minutes later to claim the 800-meter title in 1:51.97. Two months later, he successfully defended the steeplechase crown he won in 2007 with a time of 8:55.19 and then added the 5,000-meter title in 14:32.57.
His most remarkable display of running may have come in one 48-hour period in late April, when he placed second (8:43.78) in the steeplechase at the Penn Relays on Thursday evening, then claimed the 1,500-meter (3:51.41) and 800-meter (1:50.62) titles at the New England Small College Athletic Conference championship Saturday afternoon.
During the 2007-08 year, Peter won 30 of 33 races (91%) and finished second in the other three – all of which were national caliber meets. On the track, including both indoor and outdoor meets, he set school, meet and/or facility records in 20 of the 23 races (87%) in which he competed.
