Soccer Rule

 

Forfeiting

  • Team that forfeits receives loss
  • Teams can play with six players
  • First forfeit results in a warning
  • Third forfeit results in two losses
  • Fourth forfeit results in removal from league  
  • No rescheduling of the games
Rosters
  • A player may only play on one team in each league.
  • Varsity player: Anyone on roster at beginning of season, including the entire calendar year
Weather
  • Games will be played in all weather with the exception of electrical storms. If field is not playable, (standing water), teams will receive an email from intramural sports. 
Result Reporting
  • The captain of the winning team is required to submit an email which includes names of both teams and the score to the Imsoccer@hamilton.edu before 10:00pm the next day after the game. Failure to report a score will result in a loss for both teams. 
  • If at the end of regulation games (not playoffs) the game is tied, it will be recorded as a draw (no overtime or shootouts during regular games).
 
IM Soccer
 
The Game
  • In total: two 20-minute halves with a running clock.
  • Playing surface: 2 equal fields side-by-side.
 
Rosters
  • 15 players total on a team roster – 7 players on the field at one time (6 players and 1 goalie).
  • For the A league: maximum of 4 varsity soccer players (2 male, 2 female).
  • For the B league: no varsity soccer players. In addition, there must be 2 female players on the field at all times.
  • All other Player Eligibility Rules Apply.

 
General Rules of the Game


Goalkeeper

  • Will be designated prior to the start of the game.
  • Only permitted to use hands to play ball within the penalty area.
  • Once ball is handled – goalkeeper has only 10 seconds to put the ball in play.
  • Handling Rule (no pass-backs) is in effect.
Substitutes

  • May only enter the game once the ball is dead.

 

Equipment

  • NO metal or screw-in cleats.

There will be NO OFFSIDES.


There are NO THROW-INS

  • After a sideline out-of-bounds, the ball will be put in play by a kick from the touchline.
  • This is an indirect kick and should not be confused with a corner kick – which is direct.
  • Defensive players must be 5 yards from the ball on an out-of-bounds kick.
Free kicks

  • Defensive players must be 5 yards from the ball.
  • Direct Kick: A goal may be scored directly by the kicker.
  • Awarded due to: tripping, charging, handling the ball, pushing, jumping in, etc. 
  • Indirect Kick:Kicker may not score directly; the ball MUST touch another person before going into the goal.
  • Awarded on all: sidelines out-of-bounds, unsportsmanlike conduct, dangerous play, delaying play, etc.
 

Penalty Kick

  • A direct kick that shall be made from the 7-yard stripe in front of the goal.
  •  Goalkeeper shall be the only one permitted to defend; all other players must remain outside the penalty area until the ball is kicked.
  • Is awarded to the offensive team as a direct free kick within the defensive team's area.

 

Corner Kick

  • When the opposing team puts the ball in play by a kick from the corner nearest the point where the ball went out-of-bounds.
  • This is a direct kick.
  • Awarded when a defensive player last touches a ball which goes out-of-bounds across his/her own goal line.
 

Goal Kick

  • When the defensive is allowed an indirect kick near the intersection of the end line and penalty circle.
  • Ball cannot touch anyone until it clears the penalty area.
  •  Awarded when an offensive player causes the ball to go out-of-bounds across his/her opponent's goal line. 


Playoff Rules

  • In the event of a tie, teams will play a 5 minute over-time. If still tied after 5 minutes both teams will play a 5 minute "golden goal" period where the first team to score wins. If the game remains tied  then the teams will remove one player from the field every 2 minutes, still playing "golden goal" until one team wins.



Other rules
 

  • Standings will follow this point association: Win = 1 pt, Tie = 0.5 pts, Loss = 0 pts


Indoor Soccer:

  • See rules from the Fall
  • Change roster size up to 15
  • A League: 4 varsity players on the roster (2 male, 2 female); Maximum 2 varsity players (1 male, 1 female) on the field at any time
  • Equipment: No cleats of any kind, but sneakers are mandatory
