Intramural Softball Rules
 
Forfeiting
  • Team that forfeits receives loss
  • Teams can play with six players
  • First forfeit results in a warning
  • Second forfeit results in two losses
  • Third forfeit results in removal from league  
  • No rescheduling of the games
Rosters
  • Players may only play on one team
  • Varsity player: Anyone on roster at beginning of season, including the entire calendar year
Weather
  • Games will be played in all weather with the exception of electrical storms. If field is not playable, (standing water), teams will receive an email from intramural sports. 
Result Reporting
  • The captain of the winning team is required to submit an email which includes names of both teams and the score to the Imsb@hamilton.edu before 10:00pm the next day after the game. Failure to report a score will result in a loss for both teams. 
Softball Rosters
  • Teams must include a minimum of 10 players and a maximum of 15 players, including a team captain.
  • For the A league:no varsity baseball/softball players
  • For the B league: no varsity players. In addition, there must be 2 female players on the field at all time.

 

Rules of the Game:

  • No more than 10 players may fill the batting order and play in the field.
  • Games will last 6 innings.
  • No called strikes.
  • Foul balls count as strikes. However, a player cannot strike-out on a foul ball.
  • 3 strikes equals 1 out.
  • No bunting: bunting results in 1 strike.
  • No leading: No leaving the base before the ball is hit. The runner leaving the base early is out.
  • No stealing.
  • Overthrow into foul territory allows runners to advance only 1 base.
  • Arc of the pitch is 3-10 feet from the point of release. Flat pitches are to be called immediately. If the batter elects to try to hit the flat pitch and misses, the missed pitch is called a strike. If the batter hits the flat pitch, the ball is in play.

 

Forfeiting

  • Teams may play with fewer than 10 players but with no less than 7 players.
  • The general rules of forfeits apply.
