Tuesday, Third Week of Advent
"For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ."
Time with God
"What's a Holly-Lily?" I asked my mother. When I was very young, I was astonished that some people only celebrated God's gifts twice a year: once at Christmas in a flurry of snowflakes, poinsettias and holly, and once at Easter with candy and spring lilies.
As I grew older I began to understand. I had friends to talk to, errands to run and exams to study for. Each year finding the time to talk with God on a daily basis became harder and harder -- as I'm sure it does for everyone. But that is the challenge of faith. Even when we are caught up in our daily lives, God is with us, waiting for the moment we do pause for him.
Christmas is a time to remind us that -- even if it's hard to see -- the Spirit of God is everywhere. This time of year is not only an opportunity to celebrate the birth of Jesus, but our own relationship with God.
