Backup and Safety

Backup your files

It is important that you backup your valuable files in more than one location. This will prevent from the loss of important school work or needed data. ITS recommends you backup your important files onto zip disks, writeable CDs, or floppy disks. Hamilton College ITS has also installed a Student Storage server (SSS) for data storage use by students. The Employee Storage server (ESS) provides a central, secure area where all employees can backup or store their critical personal files from their on-campus desktop machine. Click here for more information.

Secure your computer

If you own a laptop or desktop computer, make sure it is always physically secure. Do not leave your laptop unprotected, or unattended, in any open area. Always make sure you close and lock your room door when you leave. Lock your laptop in a secure place or use a security device to lock your laptop. Contact Campus Safety at x4141 if you want to register your laptop so it can be tracked if it is stolen.  Check out the Campus Safety page for further information on securing your laptop.
