Firewall Perimeter Privileges

If you are a Hamilton College Faculty member, Student or Staff and would like to request access be opened from off-campus (Outside the Hamilton network) to a Hamilton college computer or service on-campus, you must fill out a Firewall Perimeter Survey. This webpage is intended to assist you in filling out the Survey form

The Hamilton College network hosts a firewall which controls the network traffic entering and leaving the Hamilton College network. The firewall sits at the gate between the Internet and the Hamilton network controlling and monitoring the traffic flowing. In order to enhance the security level of the Hamilton network a certain set of policies are implemented on the firewall that controls the access from the outside world to the Hamilton College network.

To review the complete Hamilton College Perimeter Firewall Policy, please follow this link:

The following are the list of services permitted from the Outside world to the Hamilton College network.

Access to other services and computers on the Hamilton network are denied access from off-campus. If you would like to request off-campus computers to access any Hamilton network resource then you have to fill out the firewall perimeter survey

Make sure you know about the following before filling out the survey form

  • The Action you are planning to implement

This includes specifying if you would like to add a policy (request for access from the outside world) if this is what you would like to do then select "Add Policy". If you would like to modify an existing policy that you had requested previously(Example open for a new service like Telnet) in addition to an existing service then select "Modify Policy". On the other hand if you would like to delete an existing policy then select "Delete Policy"

  • To whom you like to have the policy applicable

This will determine whom you would provide access to the service you request to have open. If you would like to have it open for everyone then you would select "yes" in response to the question. However if you would like to restrict the access to your service to a certain group of people or a specific network(Example 192.168.10.0) then you will have to specify the IP address(es) or networks that you would like to provide access for.

  • The Operating System

This includes selecting the operating system that runs on your system. Please read for more information

  • AntiVirus Software

This includes specifying the AntiVirus software that runs on your system. The Hamilton College Network requires that you have an updated Antivirus software running on your systems. Please read for more information
