Network and Telecommunications Virus and Spam Information.
What is a virus?Viruses are programs which replicate themselves by attaching a copy of themselves to some other file. Some of these viruses seem 'harmless', only printing a message on your screen. Others are more powerful, rearranging or deleting information on your computer, or slowing your computer down. For more information on viruses, click here. Spam ProtectionIf you are an Internet user you will be confronted with the term Spam. Spam is the flooding of your mailbox with unwanted messages. Spam floods the Internet with many copies of the same message, in an attempt to force the message on people who do not prefer to receive spam. Most Spam is commercial advertising, often for dubious products, get-rich-quick schemes, or quasi-legal services. It is the electronic equivalent of the junk and unsolicited mail you receive in your post office box or an unsolicited phone call from a telemarketer. For more information on Spam protection, click here. You can E-mail the Network Services Team at: ns@hamilton.edu Return to Network & Telecommunications Home Page
