Hamilton College Cellular Phone Guidelines

Hamilton College recognizes that cellular telephone service is a valuable tool for business purposes. However, use of cellular phone service is not intended to replace College telephone service.

Cellular phones are available for conducting College business if approval has been granted by the department head.

The following criteria should be applied in deciding whether it is
appropriate to acquire a college cell phone:

    • The nature of the work assigned requires substantial travel and thus limits the ability to use a college office telephone.

    • Due to frequent and prolonged time out of the office a cell phone is required to support departmental operations.

    • The nature of the work assigned requires the individual to be available for college business outside of normal hours.

    • The nature of the work assigned is critical to the operation of the College and immediate contact with the individual is required.
In addition, a department head may request a cell phone to be shared among department members if an “on call” policy exists or regular communication is needed to conduct College business, beyond the use of regular college phones.

A College cellular loaner phone is also available on a first-come first-serve basis for short term use for conducting College business. You can reserve a loaner phone via email to: telephone@hamilton.edu or by calling 859-4160.
