Maintenance Job Opportunities

Grounds Worker

1. BASIC DUTIES:

a. Works as directed by the Manager, Grounds

b. Maintains campus turf which involves: new installations and repairs, grading, seeding, mulching, spraying, fertilizing, debris removal, and trimming using both hand and driven power mowers.

c.Removes leaves using both power and manual equipment.

d. Removes snow on campus roads, walks, steps, parking lots and driveways using plows, blowers, brooms and shovels.

e. Maintains roads, parking lots and paths which involves: installation and repairs, plowing, sanding, painting, sign and light installation, curb installation and blacktop patching/pot hole repair.

f. Removes trash and recyclables: polices, picks up, transports, sorts and hauls waste to the College recycling center or an off-campus location.

g. Makes campus deliveries of both large and small items.

h. Hauls and chops logs; stacks firewood.

i. Sets-up and supports various campus events; supports all other Physical Plant departments.

j. Performs subsurface work on water, drain, and sewer lines to repair leaks and clogs, or to install new lines. 

k. May perform other related duties.

2. JOB REQUIREMENTS:

a.High school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of two (2) years experience in grounds maintenance or excavation fields.

b. Ability to operate power equipment including: tractors, front end loaders, back hoe, large and small trucks, reel and rotary lawn mowers of all sizes, and other power equipment necessary to perform job responsibilities.

c. Must possess a Commercial Driver’s License (Class C, non-CDL) no later than the end of probationary period. 

d. Ability to work overtime, as required.

e. May be required to work night shift during the winter months. (Posting through normal bidding process.)

3. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (with or without reasonable accommodation):

a. Ability to carry working loads of up to 80 pounds.

b. Ability to carry loads up and down several flights of stairs
