Special alert:
Occasionally visitors are confused by "location logic" in the fact that Hamilton College is located in Clinton, NY; while Colgate University is located in Hamilton, NY. Don't fall victim!

Directions from Hamilton College to Colgate [about 20 miles]: Go down the hill from the College. Turn right at the blinking light (route 233) and follow it to the end. Turn right on route 12B and follow route 12B all the way to Hamilton, NY, and Colgate.

At Colgate, construction restrictions require avoiding the main college entrance (Oak Drive), instead using the College Street entrance. Find College Street at the next traffic light (left turn) after you pass by the Oak Drive entrance.

The June calendar includes:
Plaster Doors of Pisa
Professor Judith Oliver and her students

Follow Route 12B to Route 20, and turn right (heading west).  Follow Route 20 West until you pass through Nelson [several miles west of the town of Morrisville], go up a long steep hill, and begin to see the business parks on the outskirts of Cazenovia.

Pull into the left lane and watch on your right for a blue tourism/highway sign announcing "Stone Quarry Art Park." Turn left across the highway onto Stone Quarry Road. You'll pass the tiny Old Quarry Pond on the right, and the Art Park will be your first right-hand drive [.7 mile total]. Look for the Park's small brown-and-gold signage at the entrance. Drive to the top of the hill first: there you'll find the Park's offices, the Winner Gallery, the Studio Shop, and a guest registration kiosk with free maps, trail guides, and other helpful materials.

Letchworth State Park: Grand Canyon of the East

Letchworth is also known as the crown jewel of the New York State Park system.

We have incredibly beautiful state parks, and Letchworth is definitely worth a visit. A quote from www.westernny.com: "Letchworth State Park, [is] a 17-mile stretch of grey-green canyon. Vivid green in springtime, radiant red in autumn, this "vale of the three falls" is aptly called The Grand Canyon of the East. A million people visit Letchworth annually. Most come to view the scenic splendor, or to picnic, hike or camp." There are biking and horseback trails as well as two pools, white water rafting, kayaking, and hot air ballooning.

It's in western New York, about 155 miles from Hamilton College. It's probably easiest to take the NYS Thruway for this trip.

Directions: Follow the road down the hill from the college, and you will find yourself at the intersection of route 12B. Stay north on 12B and at its end, follow route 12 North, to route 90. Take 90 West to exit 46 (I390S) toward Corning. Take exit 7 (Route 408) toward Mt. Morris. Turn left on NY408, then left on NY36.
