Although the co-curricular program of the Semester in Washington focuses primarily on meetings and networking with policy makers and shapers, students also explore the cultural assets of the nation’s capital.
On Jan. 25, students visited the National Gallery of Art, which was created in 1937 “to serve the United States of America in a national role by preserving, collecting, exhibiting, and fostering the understanding of works of art, at the highest possible museum and scholarly standards.”
The guided tour provided for students used selected works by Copley, Stuart, Cropsey, Saint Gaudens, Whistler, Sargent, Hassam and Bellows to tell the story of the first 150 years of American art.
