New Student Orientation 2015 (Tentative)

First year international students should plan to arrive no earlier than Sunday, August 16, 2015.  If you must arrive earlier than August 16th, plan to stay at a Syracuse airport hotel (see the Syracuse Airport Hotel Guide for multiple listings) or local hotel near the College.  For a list of local accommodations, visit https://my.hamilton.edu/admission/visiting/accommodations. 

Important dates

Late May 2015:  Expect to receive your I-20 no earlier than this!

June 2, 2015:  Earliest date to apply for your F-1 Visa.

July 15, 2015:  Deadline to notify our office of your travel plans.  Please complete this travel form.

July 18, 2015:  Earliest date to arrive in the U.S.  You may not enter the U.S. more that 30 days in advance of the report date on your I-20.

August 16, 2015: Earliest date to arrive on campus for Orientation.

August 17, 2015:  MANDATORY international student orientation begins.

  • 2:30PM   Break     
  • 2:45PM   Session II: Employment Forms (Mike Thayer, Employment Manager); Applying for a Social Security Card (Allen Harrison, Associate Dean of Students for Multicultural Affairs and Accessibility Services); and Creating an Individual Record for Income Tax Purposes (GLACIER) (Erika Mumford, Payroll and Accounts Payable Manager)--Dwight Lounge, Bristol Center

  • 4:00PM     Session III: Finding and Securing an On-Campus Job (TBD, Student Employment Representative and Peer Intern, Career Center)--Dwight Lounge, Bristol Center

  • 10:00AM   One Stop Shop -- Set up Bank Accounts (Kirner-Johnson, 1st Floor Commons)
  • 1:00PM     First-year Student Orientation begins

August 25, 2015:

9:15PM     MP2 (Multicultural Peer Mentoring Project) Welcome Reception -- Days-Massolo Center. For international students who signed oln during the summer to participate in the Project.

August 28, 2015  Sadove Center Conference Rooom

  • 4:30PM    Session V: Hamilton’s Student Judicial Process -- Jeff Landry, Associate Dean of Students for Health and Safety
  • 5:15PM    Catered Dinner 
  • 6:00PM   Session VI: Navigating the American College Classroom: Honor Code, Plagiarism, etc. -- Steve Orvis, Associate Dean of Students for Academics and Professor of Government
  • 6:45PM    Break
  • 7:00PM    Session VII: Introduction to Library Resources -- Alex Rihm, First Year Experience Librarian
  • 7:45PM    Wrap Up

Sunday, August 30, 2015, 6pm:  International Friendship Program (IFP) dinner.  Students will meet their IFP hosts and enjoy a traditional American cookout. All international students – both those with and those without IFP hosts – are welcome. The Hub at Bristol Campus Center.
