The cost of attending Hamilton College includes direct and estimated costs. These costs vary each academic year.
Direct costs are set by the Board of Trustees annually in the spring. These costs are essentially the same for all Hamilton students and include tuition, room (in the College residence halls), board (in the College dining halls, which varies depending on the meal plan), and a student activity fee. Students are charged for these fees on their fall and spring semester bills. These direct costs are also referred to as our "comprehensive fee."
Estimated costs vary from student to student. Each year, we review these amounts and adjust them accordingly. Examples of estimated costs are books and supplies, miscellaneous personal expenses, and an allocation for traveling to and from campus. The miscellaneous personal expense and travel allocation components vary based on geographic origin.
For students who qualify for financial assistance, costs are met through a combination of family contributions and Hamilton financial aid (scholarships, loans and campus employment). To calculate its portion, Hamilton uses a budget that includes both direct billed costs plus estimated costs.
