On the afternoon of the Commencement Day, 2010 May 23rd, student artists came to the gallery and took down their works. My melancholy started to engulf me as my best two senior friends were leaving that afternoon--one to Bulgaria, one to Japan. The end of an era foreseeing the début of a passionate and splendid summer, sorrows under the bright May sunlight: that afternoon stayed with me.
August 25, 2008-January 4, 2009: Cherishing the Past: Chinese Painting and Calligraphy from the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art Cornell University, because I am Chinese and a cultural conservative at the same time.
Compressed Charcoal and Chinese Ink-water: both for their expressiveness.
What impresses me about Edward Hopper is his ability to capture an off moment--not the typical epic moment of a heroic story. And he must be good at catching that psychologically off moment of me.
