Set...Hike!

October 12, 2008   The sun was out, but it wasn't hot. There was an occasional breeze, but no bone-chilling gusts. This Saturday was a perfect day for sitting in the stands at Steuben Field to watch the Hamilton football team play Bowdoin College.

While I was obligated to attend because of my job with the football team's coaching staff, I would never spend my Saturdays any other way. My job with the team includes: filming practices, helping out around the office and selling Hamilton Football sweatshirts and hats at games.

At noon, Hamilton kicked off to Bowdoin. Less than a minute later, we had intercepted the ball and were well on our way to scoring our first touchdown. In between customers I was jumping up and down, screaming and clapping, hoping my enthusiasm would help the team win.

By the end of the half, we were up 21-0 and I couldn't have been happier. This was our second home game of the season, and it looked like we were going to come out on top! Last week we lost to Trinity at home in the last 23 seconds in the game. I was hoping this game would not turn out like the last.

Even though Bowdoin scored 17 points in the second half of the third quarter, we managed to win with a final score of 28-17.

As the fans cleared out of the stands, everyone was smiling and the players and coaches were on the field celebrating. It was only 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and I already felt like my weekend was complete.
