Faculty, Administrators and Staff
may check out an unlimited number of books, all of which must be returned or renewed before the last day of exams each semester. Books checked out following the end of the spring term are due September 1. If a book is 80 days overdue, it will be declared missing and be replaced. The borrower's departmental library book budget will be charged for the replacement.
Proxy Borrowing
A faculty member may authorize secretaries, research assistants, or students to borrow library materials in his or her name. Please add individuals to your list of authorized users before sending them to the library by contacting the circulation department at x4479 or askcirc@hamilton.edu.
Spouses and Children of College Employees
have the same borrowing privileges as college employees, and may borrow up to 50 books. Fines for overdue books and recalls are the same as those for Hamilton students.
The libraries at Hamilton College and Colgate University have a reciprocal borrowing agreement. Members of each academic community may use either library and receive first priority for many library services.
Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery
Books, articles, and other materials that are not available at Hamilton College may be requested from other libraries through interlibrary loan. It takes an average of eight days for us to receive an item once a request has been placed. Articles are usually sent to the requestor as attachments to emails. Books are delivered to the department secretaries. In addition, the library also subscribes to several document delivery services. Articles may be ordered from these services directly by faculty members. For more information, contact the interlibrary loan department at x4484 or askill@hamilton.edu.
During the academic year, the library delivers books to each department secretary's office every weekday. Books may be returned to the library via the delivery service. For more information, contact the circulation department at x4479 or askcirc@hamilton.edu.
Faculty members may use their department's vendacard (available at the circulation desk) to make photocopies of materials in the library. They may also authorize secretaries, research assistants, or students to photocopy library materials for them using their department's card. Please add individuals to your list of authorized users before sending them to the library by contacting the circulation department at x4479 or askcirc@hamilton.edu.
Requesting Materials for Purchase
Each department receives an annual allocation of library funds for the purchase of books. Faculty should send their purchase requests to the following departments:
Faculty may place library materials and personal copies on reserve in Burke Library, the Media Library, and the Music Library. Contact the circulation department or the appropriate branch library for more information.
Film rentals, A-V equipment, videotaping, and audiotaping are some of the services provided by the audiovisual classroom services Department. Contact them at x4120 for more information.
