Locating Images in Books

Look at reference books such as:
 

• The Firefly Visual Dictionary

Look for photographs in popular magazines like:
 

• Harper's Weekly
• Life
• Time
• Newsweek

Use ALEX to find books that contain illustrations.
 

• Add the words "pictorial," "illustrated" or "photographs" to your keyword search.
  Example: civil war pictorial
   
• Use the subject search and look for subdivisions like "pictorial works".
  Example: Adirondack Mountains (N.Y.) Pictorial works.
   
• Look at a book’s catalog description to see if the book contains illustrations or maps.
  Example:
