Record Number of Students Apply to Hamilton's Class of 2011
With a few more applications still to be processed, the Hamilton admission staff is already reporting a record-high number of applicants to the College this year.
To date, 4,909 students have applied to the Class of 2011, which reflects a 15 percent increase over last year's final number and already bests the previous record of 4,601 applications set in 2001.
Overall last year, 4,267 student applications were received; 1,425 were offered admission (the fewest since 1989) with 503 enrolling (the highest yield -- percent of admits that chose Hamilton -- since 1982).
“This milestone clearly demonstrates Hamilton’s strong student and alumni satisfaction, growing prestige and reputation, and incredibly positive momentum,” said Monica Inzer, dean of admission and financial aid.
Despite the good news, however, there is no confetti flying in the Admission Office yet. “We’ll make time to celebrate this good news later,” Inzer added. “Right now we’re working hard to carefully read each candidate's application materials and make decisions from an increased volume of qualified candidates." Decision letters will be mailed in about 10 weeks.
