![]() Student Achievements Recognized at Class & Charter DayTyler Zink '07 and Haley Reimbold '06 Are Awarded Top PrizesMay 4, 2006 Academic achievement prizes, prize scholarships and other recognition of student accomplishments were awarded at Hamilton's 56th annual Class & Charter Day convocation on Friday, May 5, in the Chapel. Among the top prizes, Tyler Zink '07 won the Milton F. Fillius Jr./Joseph Drown Prize Scholarship and Haley Reimbold '06 was awarded the James Soper Merrill Prize. A total of 176 students won other prizes and scholarships for public speaking, writing and achievement in all academic disciplines. More ...
Teaching Awards Presented to Faculty at Class & Charter Day CeremonyWerner, Irons, LeMasurier and Raybeck HonoredMay 5, 2006 Hamilton College's highest awards for teaching were presented on May 5 to four faculty members from the philosophy, mathematics, sociology and anthropology departments. They were honored during the college's Class & Charter Day celebration, an annual convocation recognizing student and faculty excellence during the preceding academic year. Tom Brokaw Discusses Politics and Society at Hamilton4,000 Attend Lecture by Former NBC Nightly News AnchorApril 28, 2006 Veteran broadcast journalist Tom Brokaw, the longtime anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News, gave the annual Sacerdote Great Names Series Lecture in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House at Hamilton College on April 27. Former NBC Anchor Tom Brokaw Meets With Hamilton Students43 Students, Spectator Staff Discuss Media, World Events With Veteran NewsmanApril 27, 2006 Tom Brokaw, who served for more than 20 years as NBC Nightly news anchor, met informally with Hamilton students and the staff of the student newspaper, The Spectator, before his public lecture at the College on April 27. Students from history, public policy and sociology classes had the opportunity to ask Brokaw questions on a number of topics, including education and the experiences that had the most impact on him as a reporter. Brokaw then delighted the Spectator staff by dropping in for a visit as the students were finalizing the next day's issue. Sarah Griffith '06 Awarded Bristol FellowshipProject is "A Friend in Me: How Horses Become Therapists for the Disabled"April 14, 2006 Sarah Griffith '06 has been awarded the college's prestigious Bristol Fellowship. The Bristol Fellowship was begun in 1996 as part of a gift to Hamilton College by William M. Bristol, Jr., (Class of 1917). The purpose of the fellowship is to perpetuate Mr. Bristol's spirit and share it with students of the college that was such an important part of his life. Created by his family, the fellowship is designed to encourage Hamilton students to experience the richness of the world by living outside the United States for one year and studying an area of great personal interest. More ...Erika Holmes '06 Awarded St. Andrew's Society ScholarshipShe'll Study at the University of EdinburghApril 26, 2006 Erika Holmes, a candidate for May graduation from Hamilton College, has been awarded a St. Andrew’s Society Scholarship. The society provides funding for two Scottish-American students to study in Scotland to promote cultural interchange and goodwill between Scotland and the United States. Holmes will study at the University of Edinburgh where she will pursue graduate studies in biology. More ...
Haley Reimbold '06 Wins National Huntington Public Service Award$10,000 Award for Graduating Senior to Pursue Year of Public ServiceMay 2, 2006 Haley Reimbold, a candidate for graduation from Hamilton College later this month, has been awarded the national Huntington Public Service Award. The Samuel Huntington Public Service Award provides a $10,000 stipend for a graduating college senior to pursue one year of public service anywhere in the world. More ...Bob Moses '56 Leads Discussion on Social Justice in EducationEvent Marks Grand Opening for Diversity and Social Justice ProjectApril 20, 2006 Civil rights leader Bob Moses, a member of the Hamilton class of 1956, led a discussion on April 19 on social justice in American education. Moses, whose work has included the creation of The Algebra Project to improve quantitative literacy in disadvantaged schools, led students, faculty, staff, and community members in discussing educational inequality in America and how it can be addressed.
