  • Chung Gives Invited Talk at the University of Tokyo

    Assistant Professor of Anthropology Haeng-ja Chung gave an invited talk in Japanese at the Association for the Study of Korean Culture and Society at the University of Tokyo, Hongo, on April 2. Her talk was titled "Passing: Korean-Origin Hostesses in Japan."
     
    She discussed the ethnic and racial passing of Koreans in Japan and compared it with the phenomena in the U.S. She highlighted the theoretical implications of passing of Koreans in Japan in the broader performative theory. Chung is currently conducting research as a long-term postdoctoral fellow of the Social Science Research Council and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science at the University of Tokyo's department of cultural anthropolgy.
