The Department of Dance and Movement Studies will present its annual Spring Dance Concert on Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m., in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center for Music and Performing Arts.
The performance will feature Hamilton student dancers and choreography by Hamilton faculty Sandra Stanton, Bruce Walczyk and Paris Wilcox in addition to guest choreographers Lindsey LaFountain and Matthew Powell.
Lindsey LaFountain will present "One” set to the music of Weval. The dynamic & athletic duet explores the beauty of individuality that exists between two women, while honoring their common intrinsic need to move. LaFountain received her B.F.A. from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She has danced professionally with Giordano Dance Chicago and C5 Aerial Dance Company.
Matthew Powell will present “Compare/Contrast” set to the composer and pianist Sergei Rachmaninoff. By extracting steps of traditional Russian folk dances and giving them neo-classical flair, the piece aims to draw from Rachmaninoff’s life through dance.
Powell received his training at the School of American Ballet, the official school of New York City Ballet. He has professionally performed with Pacific Northwest Ballet, Kansas City Ballet, the San Francisco Opera, and danced principal/soloists roles in more than 50 works by renowned choreographers.
Sandra Stanton is a lecturer in dance and movement studies at Hamilton. She received her B.F. A. in dance from the Juilliard School and is also an alumna of North Carolina School of the Arts. Stanton will present “Love Letter” by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
“STICKWORK,” choreographed by Professor Bruce Walczyk will feature Off to Work, Working in Circles and Work & Play set to the soundtrack of Philippe Eidel and Arnaud Devos, Sandy and Papa.
Alumnus Paris Wilcox '95 is a lecturer in dance and movement studies at Hamilton. Wilcox will present “Rodeo Suite” which features two selections, Corral Nocturne and Hoedown, from Aaron Copland’s iconic Rodeo score.
