Publius Virgilius Rogers Professor of American History Isserman presented a lecture titled  “The Legacy of Michael Harrington’s The Other America on Its 50th Anniversary” on April 18 at the Missouri History Museum in St. Louis.

Professor of Archaeology Charlotte Beck and Professor of Anthropology Tom Jones have published chapters in two new books from the University of Utah Press.

Austin Briggs, Hamilton B. Tompkins Professor of English Literature Emeritus, published a review of Gordon Bowker’s biography James Joyce. “A New Life of Joyce” appeared in the Fall 2011 James Joyce Literary Supplement.

A photo by Assistant Professor of Art Robert Knight is on display in Texas National 2012 at the Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas. The photo, “Cape Ice,” is from Knight’s ongoing project called “Coming Up Roses.”

Professor of Religious Studies Heidi M. Ravven commented on a panel discussion, “Applying the Neuroscience of Morality,” during a conference held March 30 - April 1 at New York University’s Center for Bioethics.  

Michele Paludi,  Elihu Root Peace Fund Visiting Professor of Women’s Studies, has edited a four-volume book set for Praeger Publishers. Managing Diversity in Today's Workplace: Strategies for Employees and Employers provides updated empirical research and best practices for understanding and managing workplace diversity in the 21st century, including issues of gender, race, generation, disability, sexual orientation, national origin and age.

A Reuters article reflecting on the minutes from the Federal Reserve’s March meeting included comments by Henry Platt Bristol Professor of Economics Ann Owen, a former Federal Reserve Board of Governors economist. In the article titled "Fed tries to steer clear of controversial bond buys," she discussed what options the Fed might consider given the current state of the economy. 

Visiting Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies Irene Depetris Chauvin presented a paper at the Society for Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS) annual conference March 21-25 in Boston.

"Can Colleges Manufacture Motivation?," an article in The Chronicle of Higher Education, opened with comments by Daniel Chambliss, The Eugene M. Tobin Distinguished Professor of Sociology. “‘Motivation is an outcome of college. … It energizes people to want to learn more and go out in the world and grab it by the throat,’” began Chambliss, who is completing a book with Christopher Takacs ’05 titled How College Works (Harvard University Press).

Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi was a featured speaker in the South Asia Program Seminar Series at Cornell University on April 9.  Trivedi's talk "Women at Work in India: Photographs from Ahmedabad, 1937," examined a collection of some 70 photographs taken by Pranlal Patel and commissioned by the Jyoti Sangh, a women's organization.
