The above fees do NOT cover the following: transatlantic travel, personal expenses, tips, passport & visa cost, trips not connected with Academic Year excursions, textbooks, study materials, dry cleaning and transportation within Madrid.
Because of possible fluctuations in the foreign exchange rate and of other unforeseen circumstances, these fees are to be considered tentative. Every effort will be made, however, to limit the charges to those stated above.
All payments should be made by check, payable to the Hamilton College Academic Year in Spain. Please send payments to the Hamilton College Academic Year in Spain, in care of the Hamilton College Business Office, 198 College Hill Road, Clinton, New York 13323, in order to ensure proper crediting to the student's individual account.
Students who apply and are accepted for the full academic year and who decide later (by October 1 at the latest) to change to a fall-only status will be required to pay an additional $200 above the usual total fall payments. (This fee is necessary because of commitments the program has to make on an annual basis, and helps to defray extra costs incurred when such changes are made.)
Important Note: A student who is admitted for the fall term and who, while in Spain, desires admission to the full-year program, must submit an application to the Programs Abroad Committee prior to October 1, and must have that application approved by the Committee.
Note: Some Spanish consulates in the United States require proof of payment having been made in full before a student can obtain his/her visa. This may require some participants to pay prior to the official HCAYS deadline
The Hamilton College Academic Year in Spain maintains funds to be used for scholarship awards. The maximum amount usually awarded is $3,500 - $4,000 for full-year students and $2,500 for one-semester students. To apply, you should submit (1) an award letter from your College and (2) a separate letter stating the reasons and circumstances that necessitate the financial aid request. Priority will be given to students who apply for a full-year, but all students will be considered. Early applicants may also have an advantage. The deadline for application is March 1 for full-year and fall students and October 1 for spring students. State, federal or college scholarships may be applied to the Hamilton program.
