Emerson Summer Collaborative Research Awards

Application Cover Sheet (.doc)

Summer 2011

Student/Faculty teams are invited to apply for summer stipends under the Emerson Foundation Scholars Program and associated funds.

Twenty-two grants will be awarded with a $4,000 stipend for students and a $1,500 stipend for faculty members. Students in the classes of 2012, 2013, and 2014 are eligible to participate.

Some preference will be given to proposals that come from areas of the curriculum where there is little or no other funding for summer work. Proposals for a variety of projects are welcomed for "research or other scholarly or creative collaboration outside the confines of the classroom." It is required that the collaborative research be the primary focus of the student's summer work, the equivalent of a full-time job, typically for 10 weeks; pro-rated stipends for projects of shorter duration are possible. Awardees are selected based upon the quality of the proposal and collaborative nature of the research project. Other stipulations on the award are that progress reports are generated during and at the end of the project, and that a public presentation, primarily by the student, of the results of the collaboration are presented during the 2011-12 academic year.

Please submit a one-to-two page proposal (written by the student applicant) and a letter of support from the collaborating faculty member to me by Friday, February 18, 2011.

The grants will be awarded by March 11, before Spring Break. If you have any questions regarding the proposal, please get in touch with me at ext. 4615 or e-mail: mgentry@hamilton.edu.
