Student Assembly Minutes
February 16, 2009

A. Call to Order: 9:05 p.m.

B. Advising task force report: Mariana Vinacur
    - Discussed how much attention students should get from their advisors and how advisors should relate
      to students' majors
    - Advisors should know as much as possible regarding different major requirements, especially
      regarding introductory courses
    - Every course that will be needed to graduate should be clearly stated by advisors
    - Many people have complained about not getting to know their advisors very well
    - A group of experienced students should be organized for the reference of younger students and to
      complement advisors
    - Having advisor evaluations, mid-semester checkups, or future planning sessions for underclassmen
      would be very helpful
    - If interested in a specific area, students could go to the head of that department to discuss advisor
      related issues
    - The responsibilities of both the student and advisor are sometimes unclear
    - Freshmen could have forum-type seminars that serve as informational meetings at the beginning of
      the year
    - Specific academic regulations should be consolidated onto a single page that could be used as an
      advisor resource
    - Could have a "major fair" during registration periods
    - It is very helpful to have a "secondary advisor" that can sign off on certain items that would be     -
      accepted by the registrar
    - Email mvinacur@hamilton.edu with any other suggestions or concerns

D. Alcohol Coalition report: Amy Goldstein
    - Having a student-only town hall meeting to discuss drinking on campus
    - Many students don't know the statistics of how many alcohol-related medical transports occur on
      campus
    - Student Assembly sponsored meeting will be on March 4th in the Science Auditorium and there will be
an all-campus email with further information
    - This is not a training/seminar type of meeting
    - Would be good to know how similar Hamilton statistics are to those other school's
    - Students should understand that there are places on campus to get help of necessary
    - The majority of people that have been interviewed have pointed to hard alcohol as a problem
    - Coalition Against Sexual Violence could be a really good outlet to combine the two initiatives
    - The campus should become more aware of the laws surrounding it
    - Discussed banning hard alcohol, like Bowdoin College, but it does not look like it will be enforceable
    - Email agoldste@hamilton.edu with any opinions

E. Online Course Evaluation Deadline Extension Resolution
    - The Central Council of the Student Assembly resolves: The deadline for the submission of online     -
course evaluations be extended to the end of finals week, as to provide students an ample amount of
