Student Assembly Minutes
April 27, 2009
A. Call to Order: 9:04 p.m.
B. Parking Discussion—Fran Manfredo, Director of Campus Safety
• Campus Safety has been working on a plan to change the parking on campus and brought it to SA to discuss
• The plan would involve a re-designation of lots so that there was student parking available proportional to the number of students living on each side of campus
• The plan calls for two passes only--a faculty/staff pass and a student pass, which would allow students to park in any student-designated lot on campus
• A member suggested that there be two student passes, one for the north side of campus and one for the south side of campus
• After discussing, SA voted and decided that it was too soon to have this plan go into effect for the '09-'10 school year and that there are still too many logistics that would need to be figured out
• Fran Manfredo also clarified some common questions he receives about parking:
• Parking ticket fees for Hamilton College are about the same as those of other schools
• All parking regulations can be found online
• Campus Safety doesn't have anything to do with the Appeals Board for tickets
• Hamilton College is a pedestrian campus
• Revenue from parking tickets does not go into Campus Safety budget
• Students are assigned to the most convenient lots based on their dorm and Campus Safety does not assign more passes to a lot than there are spaces available, but other students often park there illegally and therefore the lots fill up
C. Campus Planning Committee Update
• Acts as the advising committee for the president
• Has been discussing the possibility of having more students sit on various committees that are currently only faculty/administrators
• Hamilton College has less student representation than other schools with similar committees
• SA members are in favor of more student representation on various committees and will work with administration to get members of the community at large to serve on these committees
