Carl Zipper '11
i. Made a handout outlining position on minutes reform
ii. Opinions of members may not be reflected just by their voting record
Everyone on the Student Assembly serves to represent the best interests of the student body
Students have said that if they had an interest in a particular topic, they would like to attend the SA meeting
The idea that SA is have this conversation shows that we are open to addressing issues that concern all students
Even if the Student Assembly members are doing their best job, there will be people who will perceive their actions negatively
Such a close-knit community means that attaching names to the minutes could stifle debate
Sometimes, after speaking and hearing others' perspectives during debate, original opinions are often altered
Students can feel free to contact representatives if they have questions about their particular opinions
A voting record is definitive and acts as the "final decision" regarding the opinions of representatives
Opinions that are stated regarding particular topics are based on the students being represented, not necessarily the representative themselves
