Apply for an Emerson Grant
Some preference will be given to proposals that come from areas of the curriculum where there is little or no other funding for summer work. Proposals for a variety of projects are welcomed for “research or other scholarly or creative collaboration outside the confines of the classroom.” It is required that the collaborative research be the primary focus of the student’s summer work, the equivalent of a full-time job, typically for ten weeks; pro-rated stipends for projects of shorter duration are possible. All substantive research or creative activity for the project must be completed by August 15. Awardees are selected based upon the quality of the proposal and the collaborative nature of the research project. Other stipulations on the award are that progress reports are generated during and at the end of the project, and that a public presentation, primarily by the student, of the results of the collaboration is made during the 2022-2023 academic year.
Use of College facilities or human participants
If your proposal involves the use of campus studios, labs, or similar facilities, your proposal should include a list of equipment or facilities needed as well as a statement of support from the faculty member or administrator responsible for that equipment or those facilities. Also, please note that if your proposal is approved and the project involves interviews or other activities with human subjects, you will be required to receive clearance from the Institutional Review Board before you begin your project.
How to apply
Students should contact a faculty member whom they would like to work with to discuss a possible collaborative project and to complete the pre-application by January 24, 2022. Once we have received your pre-application, you will get instructions to apply to be an Emerson Fellow. This application, with your proposal, is due February 13, 2022.
The grants will be awarded by April 1, 2022. If you have any questions regarding the proposal, please get in touch with Maddie Carrera at 315-859-4562 or mcarrera@hamilton.edu.
