Empathy Story Exchange and Training

Feb. 11, 2016, 4 p.m.

Building on last semester's empathy workshop, trainers from Narrative 4 led a story exchange followed by training in how to use Narrative 4’s storytelling techniques to build empathy and understanding within communities and across divides.

Community Engagement Workshops

Feb. 13, 2016, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Feb. 14, 2016, noon-3:30 p.m.

A workshop designed to help students be better aware of the impacts of their community-based projects and activities; to understand the ethics of and best practices for community engagement projects; and to develop positive relations with both community partner organizations and with community members, particularly when there are differences in culture, race/ethnicity, language ability, wealth, education, power, etc. There will be two opportunities to participate.

Developing a Financial Plan for Your Organization

March 3, 2016, 4 p.m.

In this workshop participants learned how to develop a business plan complete with start-up costs, an income statement, and a balance sheet.

Structuring an Organization

March 4, 2016, noon

This workshop with Melinda Little explored the different ways to structure an organization or business, such as nonprofit, for-profit, LLCs, corporations, and B corps. It also included an overview of the key steps necessary to implementing these structures, such as obtaining a tax ID number.
