Buff and bluebloods
It’s a celebration fit for a king and queen — make that a prince and soon-to-be princess. Several dozen students gather at the Glen House tonight, the evening before the wedding of England’s Prince William and Kate Middleton, for an English tea and fascinator party. (For those not up on royal fashion, a fascinator is a headpiece clipped to the side of the head and often made with feathers, netting, flowers or beads.) “I had the idea after getting married last summer to Andrew [Jillings, Hamilton’s director of outdoor leadership] in his home parish church in Chelmondiston, England,” says Sarah Weis Jillings, assistant director of outdoor leadership. “My new mother-in-law insisted that my mother, my sister and I wear a fascinator or a hat, as our formal wedding attire would be incomplete without one.” Students work into the night crafting their fascinators before cozying up in sleeping bags; others arrive at 5 a.m. to watch live coverage of the wedding. Everyone sports headpieces while sipping tea and munching on English muffins topped with lemon curd or orange marmalade.
