After he graduates from Hamilton in May, David Yu ’20 will be joining Amazon as a business analyst. He interned there last summer and shares his path to that first job.

Edgar Otero ’20 will be joining Urban Teachers in Washington, D.C. As part this program, Otero will complete a residency to become certified to teach full-time and obtain a master’s degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Education.

In one of their many bonding events held throughout the year, the Multicultural Peer Mentoring Project (MP2) recently visited the North Star Orchard to enjoy the crisp fall season, delicious apples, and great company.

“Infusing validation, normalizing experience, embracing struggle and failure, and promoting self-advocacy and well-being.” These are the words Travis Hill sees on his whiteboard when he walks into his office every morning. As Associate Dean of Students for Student Engagement, Hill has sought to make these words more than just pretty letters on his wall, but instead, a call to action, especially for his new podcast series: Life on the Hill.

A song. A camera. A personal story. These are just some of the elements that students were told to work with and embody during a theatre workshop led by Michael Breslin ’13.

Before studying abroad, everyone encouraged me to visit the fun, touristy areas of London as well as the historical, local neighborhoods. They advised that I explore London and try to learn more about the culture from its natives, taking advantage of every learning opportunity. When they said to explore London, I don’t think they expected that I’d have the opportunity to marvel at the incredible chambers of the UK House of Lords in a tour led by an actual member of Parliament.

Olivia Paradice ’18 is interning at the Foreign Press Center (an office in the Public Affairs Bureau of the State Department) this summer. As a capstone internship project, Paradice will make a presentation in front of a foreign news outlet. After that, she’ll attend The American University of Paris for a Master's in Global Communications.

Senior Fellow Ben Mittman, who has a post-Hamilton job in a neuroscience lab at MIT, spent his final year at Hamilton studying how the brain collects and processes information related to social interaction.

In a “What I Did With My Major in Humanities” panel hosted by the Career Center, five alumni who majored in sociology, women’s studies, or Africana studies explained how their academics affected their careers. They shared stories on influential moments from Hamilton, skills that transferred from their major to their work, and critical pieces of advice that all 40 students in the room could use moving forward.
