Hamilton President Steven Tepper announced the promotion of five faculty members to the rank of professor, as approved by the College’s Board of Trustees at its June meeting. They include Kate Brown (Physics), Courtney Gibbons (Mathematics and Statistics), Max Majireck (Chemistry), Seth Schermerhorn (American Studies), and Pavitra Sundar ( Literature and Creative Writing). All will be effective July 1, 2026.

Assistant Professor of Physics Kate Brown sat down with Rebekah Fowler '21 to talk about her favorite course to teach, why she chose Hamilton, and how to succeed in her classes.

Six faculty members were approved for tenure by Hamilton’s Board of Trustees during a recent meeting. The board awarded tenure to Katherine Brown (physics), Courtney Gibbons (mathematics), Gbemende Johnson (government), Alexandra List (psychology), Max Majireck (chemistry), and Seth Schermerhorn (religious studies).

Assistant Professor of Physics Kate Brown presented “Jackson Pollock, Lightning Rods, Quantum Mechanics” at Harvard earlier this semester. Her talk was part of a seminar on “Widely Applied Mathematics.”

Alan Cafruny, the Henry Platt Bristol Chair - International Affairs and Professor of Government; Assistant Professor of Physics Kate Brown; Assistant Professor of Sociology Jaime Kucinskas; Professor of Africana Studies Heather Merrill; Associate Professor of Literature and Creative Writing Jane Springer; and Assistant Professor of Classics Jesse Weiner were honored.
