Daniel Chambliss, the Eugene M. Tobin Distinguished Professor of Sociology Emeritus, gave the keynote address for a pre-conference at the American Sociological Association annual meeting.

Austin Cipriano ’25, Shey Sanges ’26, and Marcela Rondon ’27 spent their summer leaving a tangible mark on both the present and future of Hamilton’s campus. Under the leadership of Director of Environmental Protection Safety and Sustainability Brian Hansen, a group of students helps Hamilton strive for a more sustainable campus, culture, and curriculum. This summer’s group tackled three projects critical to the College’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2030.

Many people assume that being pre-med means sacrificing hobbies and travel opportunities. Not so for Carolyn Levin ’26, a biochemistry and art double major, who is nurturing her pre-med goals by tapping into her enthusiasm for ceramics. With the help of an Emerson grant and the Global Study Office, she has traversed continents, languages, and ceramics studios to explore her passion.

Professor of Art Robert Knight was recently awarded the Architecture, Culture and Spirituality Forum (ACSF) Lindsay Jones Memorial Fellowship.

National and regional news organizations regularly interview Hamilton faculty, staff, alumni, and students for their expertise and perspectives on current events, and to feature programs and activities on campus. July’s news topics included varied subjects from our carbon foot print to the presidential campaigns, conventions, and election.

Professor of Philosophy Russell Marcus gave the 2024 presidential address at the American Association of Philosophy Teachers biennial conference in July at Otterbein University (Ohio). His talk "Collaboration and Serious Engagement in the Philosophy Classroom" marked the second and final year of his presidency. Marcus has been an AAPT board member or committee chair since 2010, and served as vice president in 2021-22.

In an email to the Hamilton community on Aug. 5, President Steven Tepper announced the appointment of Marisa Sanchez Benincasa as vice president for communications and marketing.
