Alan Cafruny, the Henry Platt Bristol Chair of International Affairs and Professor of Government, co-edited Globalization in a Turbulent Era, published recently by Edward Elgar Publishing. Leila Simona Talani of King’s College London was his co-editor.
According to the publisher, the book “evaluates the causes and consequences of globalization and deglobalization in today’s world.” The articles in it explore key phases of globalization as they relate to topical phenomena such as migration, radicalization, and US–China relations, and were written by leading international political economy scholars.
“Contributors contextualize the history of globalization by exploring both conceptual and theoretical questions, as well as ongoing debates between skeptics and hyperglobalists,” the description says, noting that Globalization in a Turbulent Era is “a crucial reference for scholars and students in the field of international political economy,” as well as those in international relations, European public policy, and migration studies.
The book includes a chapter by Cafruny on “Europe’s existential crisis.”
In a review, Henk Overbeek of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands, called Globalization in a Turbulent Era “a provocative read.” Richard Sakwa of the University of Kent, UK, said the essays included in the book provide “an invaluable insight into the deeper dynamics of our times.”
“This book is important reading for students and scholars keen to develop a deeper critical understanding of contemporary world order and our changing global politics,” wrote Ben Clift of the University of Warwick, UK.
