Genevieve Caffrey ’17 on Skeppsholmsbron, a bridge that connects two of Stockholm’s islands.

During her study at The Swedish Program at the Stockholm School of Economics, Genevieve Caffrey ’17 focused on comparative public policy courses that look at the Swedish and Scandinavian models of welfare and government policies. Back on the Hamilton campus she’s found opportunity within her public policy major to explore U.S. foster care administration. That's a deep interest for Caffrey, who has been a foster sister.

With a Levitt Public Service Internship Award from Hamilton, Caffrey did an eye-opening summer internship with the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency, an experience that also is related to her major. (She minors in math and art.)

“The reason I chose the public policy major is largely because I want to work with foster care administration and policy reform. Interning at DCPP allowed me to get an amazing hands-on experience in the system I want to work with. Looking forward, I want to my senior thesis to tackle some issue of the U.S. foster care system; my internship provided me with a helpful insight and connections that I can use for this,” Caffrey says.

After Hamilton she wants to do personal research or volunteer or a year or so, then enroll in a grad school that offers a dual degree in law and policy administration or public policy.
