Class of 1974 Scholarship

The Hamilton and Kirkland Class of 1974 has endowed a joint Class of 1974 Scholarship fund providing financial aid to help students afford a Hamilton education. The College practices “need blind admissions” which means a prospective student’s financial situation is not a factor in admission decisions — and once admitted, Hamilton commits to meeting the student’s full, demonstrated financial need. This opens up new access and opportunity, and leads to a diverse, academically talented cohort of students studying on the Hill. The first student was awarded aid from this class scholarship in 2023.

The goal for the Class of 1974 Scholarship Fund is $350,000, and over $250,000 has been raised as of late 2023.

Kirkland Courtyard

As part of your 50th reunion celebration, the Kirkland Class of 1974 has identified a significant reunion gift. The committee is working with the College’s leadership and its landscape architects to design an outdoor courtyard adjacent to the newly renovated List building. This outdoor green space will benefit the entire campus, creating a beautiful and welcoming place for students, faculty, alumni and visitors to gather, socialize, study, eat a meal, and (extra space) have classes. The gift is aligned with the Kirkland Green (the amphitheater donated by the Kirkland Charter Class of 1972) as well as the enhanced outdoor gathering circle that the Kirkland Class of 1973 is developing. The courtyard will be dedicated to the spirit of Kirkland Everlasting — inspiring creativity, new ways of thinking, and the love of life-long learning.

The project is estimated to cost $100,000 and, by early January 2024, nearly half of the funds have been raised. Contributions to the effort by members of the Kirkland Class of 1974 will count toward the 50th reunion gift.

For more information, or to request a K'74 Class Gift contribution form, please contact Gift Co-Chairs Nanelle Napp at elle2nan@gmail.com or Joanne Orlando at jrporlando@cox.net, or Victoria Kidd at vkidd@hamilton.edu or 315 859-3338.

What to Expect

Below is a general overview of what to expect for your milestone reunion.

Your milestone celebration begins on Wed., June 5 with an optional kick-off day in the central NY region. More information is coming soon!

Please plan to arrive on the Hill on Thurs., June 6. There is a special 50th reunion welcome and information desk. On-campus events begin in the afternoon, and we are hosting our first 50th reception and dinner with classmates and guests. The dinner program includes the presentation of the 50th reunion medallions, which we encourage you to wear during the weekend. The 50th class gift is presented to President Wippman this evening.

Throughout the weekend there will be time to explore the campus, including the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art, The Kevin and Karen Kennedy Center for Theater and Studio Arts, the Root Glen, Taylor Science Center, the college bookstore, as well as the many new and old buildings and facilities around campus. There are a number of 50th reunion specific scheduled events, including Hamilton and Kirkland 50th alumni colleges, a golf cart campus tour followed by lunch, the all-alumni parade, the presentation of the half-century annalist letters for Hamilton and Kirkland, and social gatherings. Saturday night is a very special 50th class dinner with music and toasts. The reunion concludes on Sunday morning with the Service of Remembrance and a farewell brunch.

The Reunion Planning Committee will be organizing virtual alumni colleges in fall, winter/spring, and various alumni colleges during reunion weekend, featuring a panel discussion and involvement from members of your class across many areas of interest.

The annual meeting of the Alumni Association is held on Sat., June 8 in the Chapel. The program includes the introduction of the class, choir performances, and the presentation of the Hamilton and Kirkland half-century annalist letters.
