Private Music Lessons

Registration for Music Lessons was complete Aug. 11-14. Students should contact Kim Carroll (kmcarroll@hamilton.edu) if they still wish to register (late registrations may not be guaranteed). FOR THE FALL SEMESTER OF 2020, ALL MUSIC LESSONS WILL BE HELD ONLINE for a variety of reasons, but primarily because scheduling and maintaining safe spaces for lessons is impossible due to the limitations of the many safety protocols that everyone must follow. Further, for health and safety reasons, only students who take drums, percussion, upright bass, and Solo Performance/Advanced Piano Lessons will be permitted to use the practice rooms. Everyone else will need to take their lessons and practice in their rooms or some other safe location.

Music Auditions

Auditions for the Orchestra and Chamber Music Ensembles (including Brass Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, Hamstrings Quartet, Percussion Ensemble, Saxophone Ensemble, and other groups) this year will be done online. Fill out this form by Friday, August 21. In the form you will be asked to upload or link to an audio or video recording that gives a good representation of your playing. Any solo or etude that includes both technical and lyrical styles will work. You can submit your recording by doing any of the following:

(i) Upload a sound or video file
(ii) Post a link to a sound or video file that's already online
(iii) Or you can email Prof. Heather Buchman (hbuchman@hamilton.edu) to set up an audition over Zoom.

Note that large files of 100 MB or more (particularly video) will take a while to upload. Sound files will tend to be smaller and are perfectly acceptable.

Auditions for the new choral ensemble Hamilton Voices are already underway. We are accepting electronic submissions (video and audio). The deadline for the submission of materials is Friday August 21, 11:59am. Audition information can be accessed here. Contact Prof. Charlotte Botha at cbotha@hamilton.edu if questions arise. Here is the url for the embedded link if you have trouble when copy and pasting:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tOB3QHEvSBR1Zd0EDZl9RXvxRs97faACvlkn4roqtdw/edit?usp=sharing

Auditions for the Jazz Ensemble will be held Tuesday, August 25, at 4 p.m. on the Wellin Hall, Schambach Center stage. The audition tune will be “A New Season” the tune will be in envelopes in front of Professor Woods’ door (List 236). There will be copies of the melody and changes in C, B-flat, E-flat, and Bass Clef. Please take only the part that you need. Play and style up the head, play two times through the changes, and know the scale for each chord. The more menu items the better. Scale books are available in the College Bookstore. First-year students are encouraged to call in advance: 315-525-4011. Contact Professor Michael Woods (mwoods@hamilton.edu) for more information.

Contact the ensemble directors if you have not yet completed the audition process.
