Deidre Pierson
Associate Director of Athletics and Associate Professor of Physical Education
Deidre Pierson is the associate athletics director and senior women’s administrator in the Department of Athletics. She also serves as compliance director and athletics diversity and inclusion designee (ADID). Pierson received her B.S. in political science and paralegal studies from Boise State University, and her M.S. in sport management with a focus on intercollegiate athletics from the State University of New York at Cortland. She brings 20 years of experience working in the legal, compliance, and financial services fields. Pierson recently coached women’s basketball at Hamilton College, Skidmore College, and Union College. Her research focuses on diversity and inclusion in intercollegiate athletics, and she has presented her work at the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport (NASSS) conference, and at SUNY Cortland.
Research Interests
Diversity and Inclusion in higher education and intercollegiate and scholastic athletics,Title IX and its impacts on equity in education and intercollegiate athletics, girls and women in sports, public policy affecting higher education and its impact on diversity and inclusion.
