Richard Bedient

Dick Bedient, the William R. Kenan Professor of Mathematics, joined the Hamilton faculty in 1979 after earning his doctorate from the University of Michigan, a master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and a bachelor’s degree from Denison University. The author of numerous scholarly articles, his research and teaching focuses on low-dimensional topology, knot theory, fractal geometry, and chaos theory. In 2016, the Student Assembly presented Professor Bedient with the Sidney Wertimer Award, which honors a faculty member “who is recognized as a mentor and active participant within the Hamilton community.” He has served as chair of the Mathematics Department and the Student Fellowship Committee, and as faculty advisor for women’s volleyball, Kappa Sigma Alpha sorority, the Sailing Club, and the Curling Club.
