Aspirational Design Updates (Week of 9/22)

Dear Hamilton Community,

We had another very busy week hosting the “Democracy & Imagination” and “Creative Campus and What If?” Focus Charrettes. More than 150 members of our campus community engaged through charrette participation and prototype testing. If you were among those who took part, thank you for sharing your ideas and perspectives! We couldn’t do this without you.

As a reminder, our Aspirational Design process will continue throughout the fall with additional events and charrettes, each centered on a core theme. These gatherings are an opportunity to bring campus community voices directly into the work of shaping Hamilton’s future.

What Happened Last Week

  • Focus charrettes and prototype testing were held for the Creative Campus & What If and Democracy & Imagination themes.
  • Recent charrette participants shared how energizing it is to connect and collaborate with campus community members and develop new and bold ideas together.
  • Among the most exciting moments during each charrette has been developing prototypes and testing them with students, faculty, and staff. The insights gleaned from these conversations have helped make ideas better, but also encouraged the groups to ask bigger questions.

Coming Up This Week

  • Thursday, 9/25, 12-1 p.m. Aspirational Design Tabling: Share your insights and thoughts on the upcoming charrette themes of Hamilton 360 and Practicing the Liberal Arts.
Locations: McEwen Courtyard, Sadove Terrace, Western Quad (near SCCT)
  • NEW! Design Hub coming soon!
Our Design Hub will be available in the front of Burke Library by Friday, 9/26. Come and check out illustrations of our Aspirational Design process and the six charrette themes, and leave Post-Its for what ideas these spark for you.

SAVE THE DATE!
Community Charrette
Wednesday, Oct. 8; 7-9 p.m.
Tolles Pavilion
This will be the first of two all-campus charrettes where the work completed during the three preceding Focus Charrettes get shared back with the Hamilton community. These sessions invite everyone to reflect, test prototypes, and help continue to shape each theme. Dessert and drinks will be provided.

To participate in any of these charrettes (or other aspirational design activities), please email email aspirationaldesign@hamilton.edu.
