Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi, and St. Lawrence University Professor of Philosophy Erin McCarthy, co-editors of ASIANetwork Exchange: a Journal of Asian Studies in the Liberal Arts, have published their first online issue of the journal.

Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi attended the annual meeting of the American Historical Association in Chicago, Jan. 5-9. She completed her term as president of the Society for Advancing the History of South Asia (SAHSA) by organizing three panels for the conference and convening a business meeting of the organization she led.

Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi was invited to speak at Hobart and William Smith Colleges on Nov. 11. Her talk, "A Photography of Working Ahmedabad: the Jyoti Sangh, Pranlal Patel, and women workers" addressed a series of 70 photographs that Trivedi uncovered during her research in India this past spring.

Lisa Trivedi, associate professor of history, assumed her tenure as the president of Society for Advancing the History of South Asia (SAHSA) at the annual meeting of the American Historical Association in Boston, Jan. 6-9. Trivedi leads SAHSA in a period of growth and as it seeks a new role and position within the American Historical Association, the nation’s premier professional association of historians.

Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi gave a paper titled "Won't You Be My Neighbor?: reflections on Mohandas Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." at St. Lawrence University on Jan. 22. Trivedi was invited to speak by St. Lawrence for Peace, a campus advocacy group that is part of the college's Global Education Initiative and that organized a week of events celebrating Dr. King's life and work.

Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi has been elected the 2010 vice president and the 2011 president of the Society for Advancing the History of South Asia (SAHSA), a group soon to be an affiliated society of the American Historical Association (AHA). Although there has been a caucus of historians of South Asia for some time in the AHA, the founding of SAHSA nearly three years ago marked a significant change in the visibility of South Asia within the discipline's premier professional organization.

Five members of the Hamilton faculty were recognized for their research and creative successes through a new series of awards presented at the 2008 Class & Charter Day on May 9. The Dean’s Scholarly Achievement Awards were instituted in three categories this year by Dean of Faculty Joe Urgo. Derek Jones, the Irma M. and Robert D. Morris Professor of Economics, received the Career Achievement Award; Associate Professor of Mathematics Debra Boutin was awarded Early Career Achievement; and Assistant Professor of Sociology Stephen Ellingson, Associate Professor of English Naomi Guttman and Associate Professor of History Lisa Trivedi all received the Notable Year Achievement awards.
